Nominations for New Board Members
Diplomates are invited to nominate themselves or a fellow Diplomate for the three seats on the Board of Directors becoming vacant in April, 2006.  For effective Diplomate representation, ABT tries to maintain a balance between academia, government, and industry.  In addition, heavy emphasis is placed upon areas of expertise in relation to the current Board makeup in order to have as comprehensive a representation as possible.  For the three positions becoming vacant in April, 2005, the interest in serving on the Board was unprecedented.  We had 30 nominations for the three positions.  Please do not become discouraged if you are not selected.  The Board may be very interested in a candidate, but that candidate’s expertise may not fit the needs of the Board for that particular year.

Please be aware that Directors become part of a working Board.  Members participate in three Board meetings per year, and one or more committee meetings at the ABT office, as well as proctoring the certification examination in October and helping to staff the ABT booth at the SOT meeting.  In addition, Board members devote extensive outside review time to examination preparation.  If you are interested, and have completed at least one recertification, email your curriculum vitae to ABT at abtox@mindspring.com anytime throughout the year.  You may also nominate a colleague, whom we will then contact for a CV.  Curriculum vita may also be mailed  to the office.  Please be aware the deadline for CVs is December 1 each year, for consideration for the vacancies coming up the following March.  This is a new deadline instituted last year.

ABT Granted Trademarks
The ABT logo is now trademarked, and is designated as such with the ® symbol.  Not only is the logo trademarked, the label “Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology” is also trademarked.  Please be aware of non-Diplomates using the DABT designation, and bring such instances to the attention of the Board.  We are committed to upholding the importance of the DABT designation.  Anyone who uses it inappropriately or without authority will be warned, and subjected to legal action if necessary.
